Use of a Piezocomposite Generating Element in Harvesting Wind Energy in Urban Regions
Abstract
carbon/epoxy, PZT ceramic, and glass/epoxy cured at an elevated temperature. When the PCGE is excited by a fan blade, the effects of the deformation enable it to generate the electric power. The device is tested for the capabilities of power generation and battery charging. In wind tunnel test, charging time for a 40mAh battery is approximately 2.5 hours under wind speed of 2.8 m/s. The experimental results in this paper show that the prototype can harvest energy in urban areas with minor wind movement.
